The Movies / Cinema

Started by: J3mbo (62)

Are they dead? Is it all Netflix and the like at home?

Does anyone else still enjoy actually going to see a film in a proper cinema? I do. I love it. I especially love something a little different and quirly like The Flower Bowl at Barton Grange near Garstang. Small units with nice velvet sofas and small tables for your pot of tea etc. Wonderfull! The last film I saw there was The Beekeeper with Jason Stratham. Not my usual genre but I really enjoyed it!

Wigan area. Sad that the iconic art deco Ritz Cinema was demolished for the 'grand arcade' as it was suggested by the council that Wigan didn't need a cinema. Yet under the present proposed development we actually do need a cinema we are informed. Goalposts change more regularly than my underwear. Sad that we lost a historic building that also doubled as a music venue for the likes of the Beatles and many more!

Saturday night about 8 o’clock I know where I’m going to go - Saturday night at the movies. Not just one we had a choice of 4. Those were the days.

My fave cinema is a 30min drive from home. We look at it as part of a day out - or an afternoon out at least.

According to Wigan Today Omniplex Cinema Group is to take over the old Empire cinema building at Robin Park to open this summer.
Quote " In the foyer cinemagoers will be greeted by food trucks serving everything from pizza slices to grilled sandwiches, soft drinks, beer and cocktails. There will be fully electric recliner seating throughout and luxurious sofa beds in some screens"
Whatever next!!!

Many moons ago we went to the Cinema (Empire) to watch "War Horse". The cinema was nearly empty but the sound was way too high.If you did not need earing aids when you went in you needed them after you came out The excessive noise spoilt the viewing

I haven't seen 'War Horse' the film but have seen the stage adaptation with a big horse puppet operated by a crew of people all in black. I was very sceptical but got dragged along. It was excellent! It only took 10min to zone the crew out and by the end - in you mind that was a horse!
